Watts’ painting, ‘Hope,’ which helped inspire Barack Obama to the presidency, is on exhibit at London’s Guildhall Art Gallery.LONDON - A nearly forgotten Victorian painter is back in the limelight after his work played a part in pointing Barack Obama down the path toward the White House.
G.F. Watts’ painting “Hope” - on display until next spring at the Guildhall Art Gallery in London - inspired a sermon by Obama’s controversial ex-pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
Obama was moved by the homily, often citing it as a key turning point in his political evolution. more
