Could Obama's Wednesday Night Get Togethers Backfire In Class Resentment Muckey-Muck?
Friday, March 6, 2009 at 8:14AM Anne here, very sensitive to manufacturered stories that drive web traffic.
Still annoyed with Bonnie Fuller's manufactured story Sleevegate, now extended into Salon as "scandal", that the country is actually up in arms over Michelle going sleeveless, I read the Gawker headline Poll: Do the Obamas Get a Class-Resentment Pass for the White House Soirees? with skepticism.
Based on the Gawker poll results, the questions seems to be a fair one.
Of the 1800 people voting yesterday in this unscientific poll Should the Obamas Be Partying So Hard?:
35% of the voters said: "Hell yeah, (they should party on) this is phony manufactured outrage and a distraction from something boring but totally important, probably." (Dear readers, this IS Gawker)
But 15% said "Maybe they should cut back." and 26% said No, were a GOP president acting like this during a financial crisis we'd all be up in arms (hint hint Nancy Reagan)
As for the 17% of Gawker readers answering that they were drunk at the moment, we don't know their opinion on White House soirees.
I support the Obama social strategy, because I truly believe that we need some symbols of prosperity and collegial get-togethers in the new administration. As a business person, I know that much of the real action in getting things done occurs in social situations.
BUT, conservatives will drive this "class-resentment" topic aggressively, and Team Obama must be on guard.
Michelle's showing up at Miriam's Kitchen yesterday may be been planned weeks in advance. And then again . . . Anne
