Michelle to go drab at Fort Bragg: Politico

Hillary Clinton traveled more, more quickly. Laura Bush admitted she was something of a late bloomer in the role.

But neither former first lady could match Michelle Obama in the amount of debate, dissection and dispute over her fashion choices. One sleeveless dress — worn the night of her husband’s address to Congress — led to streams of commentary.

But Obama will make a turn of sorts Thursday, when she trades off-the-shoulder for the world of olive drab during a visit to Fort Bragg, N.C., to meet with military families and the groups who support them.

It is emerging as her signature issue and a chance for her to shake off the image of fashion icon — or at least add to it a sense of a fully active first lady, using her powerful platform to get things done. more
