If there were ever a time for American social life to open itself up to an idea of difference and distinctiveness, it is now.  The Obama family represents a heterogeneous lineage, a mixture not only of black and white, but also of class backgrounds, as well as global and cosmopolitan variances we’ve not seen set the stage for politics in a nation that touts its melting-pot reflection.   Just like the Kennedy’s, the Obamas will bring a certain stamina and stylistic verve to the White House; but unlike the previous famous first family, the Obamas will offer a unique elegance to the culture of Washington, introducing a dynamic fusion of style and political energy. more
