First Lady Launches United We Serve Campaign in San Francisco
Monday, June 22, 2009 at 4:23PM First Lady Michelle Obama is back in the garden in San Francisco today, at Bret Harte Elementary School with California first lady Maria Shriver and local volunteers.
Kicking off United We Serve, Michelle is supporting the president's call to action, urging people to volunteer at schools and hospitals, picking up trash and toutoring.

At Bret Harte Elementary School, the First Lady reburbished a playground that includes an edible garden. In a good-eating update to my old-fashioned lemonade stand, the edible garden will have a farmer's market stand shere kids and seniors (I assume elderly seniors) can sell vegetables to raise money for the school.
Later today, Michelle Obama is scheduled to speak at the 2009 National Conference on Volunteering and Service.
