Tracking Michelle Obama, Robin Givhan Finds Her Editorial Voice

Becoming increasingly forthright and honest about Michelle's dimished role on last week's trip, Robin called a spade a spade. No more dressing up the Michelle image, at least I wanted to see.
Robin's writing was excellent reading as the days evolved -- even though I didn't like what she was observing.
The photos spoke a thousand words.
On the ground and in contact with West Wing politicos, Robin comfirmed a new reality of being the 'spouse', an identity that seemed to elude Michelle's experience on the April trip. Then we saw a vivacious, articulate woman 'modern spouse' reaching out to the world. They reached back.
Would Michelle have hugged the queen on this trip? I bet not. Yet her spontaneous royal gesture was historic, cementing a wonderful synergy between the two women.
Today's article on Michelle's African roots is presumably the last in the series, now that all O's are back on American soil.
