President Obama golfing on Martha's VineyardIt's day three of the first family's Martha's Vineyard retreat.
If the president is sweating the revised deficit numbers, now pegging the soaring federal deficit at $1.6 trillion this year, we would never know it. The Washington Post says the nation is mired in the deepest pool of red ink since the end of World War II.
President Barack Obama, center, laughs with trip director Marvin Nicholson, right in white shirt, and White House assistant chef Sam Kass, in orange shirt. This morning POTUS reappointed Ben Bernanke chairman of the Federal Reserve. Later, he hit the golf course with White House trip director Marvin Nicholson and White House assistant chef Sam Kass.
Yesterday the president played tennis with Michelle and hit some golf balls. We all know that the president is a voracious reader. The books on his vacation reading list include:
1. "The Way Home," by George Pelecanos
2. Tom Friedman's "Hot, Flat and Crowded"
3. Richard Price's "Lush Life"
4. Kent Haruf's "Plainsong"
5. "John Adams" by David McCullough.
