Hanging Out with the Girls at 3303 Water Street: Home of Michelle's Women Powerbrokers

Is 3303 Water Street, Washington's power address for women? Susan Sher, Valerie Jarrette and Desiree Rogers all live there, calling it "the dorm". That's some dorm!

The streamlined, modern, award-winning architecture of 3303 Water Street translates into sixty-eight apartments located along the Potomac river waterfront in the heart of Georgetown.

I'm thinking the "Michelle Obama Girls Network" story is one of the premier examples in America of a group of professional women staying together 'for life', networking their way to success.

I haven't read that they played golf together regularly, but Michelle Obama, Susan Sher, Valerie Jarrette, and Desiree Rogers go way back. These days they dine together at 3303 Water Street, in progressive dinners.

Recently sold Apartment 7LToday's Chicago Tribune story on Michelle's relationship with her new Chief of Star, Susan Sher, emphasizes the long-term roots of this energizing, challenging but also comforting and trusting relationship of powerful women.

When both Obama and Sher worked together at the University of Chicago Medical Center, Sher became a constant 'sounding board' for Michelle. We have no word who won their tennis game on the White House courts.

As Michelle moves to increase her voice and visibility on strategic West Wing initiatives, it was time to call in her trusted mentor and adviser Sher.

"We're now at the stage where we're going to be thinking more strategically about the things that I do and how they fit into the West Wing," Obama said. "I just felt that Susan was a better fit for that."

There are no rental or for sale vacancies at 3303 Water Street. So far no found photos of the "dorm girls' apartments.

Recently sold 8FIt's inspiring to think of this group of heavy-hitting women, hanging out in a kitchen at 3303 Water Street. The sucess of Team Michelle Obama reinforces the important of long-term female networks -- which women aren't so good at forming and maintaining over the years.

The 'dorm girls' are a reality check on how to succeed in America. In many ways the old boys network knows what it's talking about, and women need to listen up. Anne
