President Obama's Perspective As Team Obama Arrives in Ghana
Friday, July 10, 2009 at 6:25PM For a thoughtful essay about the Obamas landing in Ghana and the expectation that the trip to Cape Coast Castle will actually be more difficult and moving for Michelle, check out Dayo Olopade's insights over in Mister President via The Daily Beast: The Obama Family 'Homecoming'.
If you missed it, I wrote about Cape Coast Castle earlier in the week and will touch it again tomorrow: A Preview of President Obama's Trip to Ghana.
Included are the videos of his frank interview with AllAfrica.com about joint responsibilities of Africans to clear up African politics, along with the developed world obligations there.
Over on Anne of Carversville, we have several important articles, related to the trip:
Read Bonos's op ed piece for the NYTimes: Rebranding Africa in this week's HopeTracker News 7/13/09. We are big Bono fans at A of C.
I wrote a post Smart Sensuality Women Support Philanthropy that Delivers Results.
Last week, we featured an excellent article in the Wall Street Journal on Warren Buffet's Son Howard Buffet, who is very committed to helping farmers in Africa. That article is midway through last week's HopeTracker 7/6/09.
All of these articles dwell on the obligations of the United States and the developed countries in supporting Africa, but also emphasize a strong sense of 'enough is enough' when it comes to the notoriously gluttonious, financially ruinous, irresponsible leadership in many African countries.
President Obama is arriving in Africa and expresses in the videos in our Preview of President Obama's Trip to Ghana that he's holding Africa very accountable on results for future aid.
As I wrote this morning, when babies are dying of malnutrition and their own cousins are highjacking the food, there's only so much that we can do in the situation. Heartlessness is rampant in Africa. Everyone has to come to the plate and take responsibility for the carnage. Anne
