POTUS (and Dare We Say the Queen's Friend FLOTUS) Flex Some Obama Muscle on Her Behalf
Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 9:56AM UPDATE: The BBC is reporting that Prince Charle will now attend D-Day commemorations in Normandy this weekend. The prince was invited today Tuesday, by French President Nicholas Sarkozy, via the French ambassador in London, at the request of the Obama administration.
Prince Charles will attend at least one main event alongside President Obama, French President Sarkozy and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

The small details of life mean a lot, and they are remembered for a lifetime.
Good manners can't be bought, and I'm thrilled to see the constant attention to detail exhibited by the fine-breeding, social graces of the Obamas.
International statesmanship operates on many levels. You are seeing it in action today.
I was very surprised to read that Queen Elizabeth hadn't been invited to the commemoration ceremonies in Normandy later this week. Posting a London Times article "Sarkozy Hijacks Longest Day" on A of C Sunday, the word was that Sarkozy wants all the attention. He hasn't even invited his political rivals, because there's a French election the next day.
Now POTUS has come to the Queen's rescue, officially requesting that the Queen, the only surviving head of state who served in World War II, be included in the guest list.
It's prepostrous that the Sarkozy left her off the list. But then we know there's not a lot of love lost between the French and the Brits. We need a little "Yes We Can" on that front, too.
Like I said, the small details and caring manners go far in life. I love this Obama gesture, and I doubt he made it alone. Perhaps FLOTUS whispered the idea in his ear. A
