Attacking the Obamas Will Not Enhance the Republican's Popularity. The Citizen Center Is Not Amused.

Photo via Huff PoWithout asking, I pulled some comments off of Mrs.-O and Huff Po, just now, sharing the articulate responses that I believe represent how the majority of Americans feel about the Obamas flying to New York last night.
Not only do Mrs-O's readers not fault the Obamas, they stress how it's important for Americans to see the First Lovebirds being just that -- a romantic, happy couple experiencing the pleasures America offers.
Americans want a vision of happiness and a good life, in the midst of all our economic challenges. If Michelle were dripping in diamonds and fur, it would be one thing. But both Obamas were totally toned down visually (not that they are ever over the top).
Personally, I think the majority of Americans are exhausted with this kind of political sniping. It accomplishes nothing at a time when we must pull together.
Quite frankly, Americans have been calm in not vocally blaming and deriding the Republicans for this economic mess, when much terser language is probably deserved. We are looking for solutions, not biting, cheap potshots at POTUS and FLOTUS and ask Republicans -- at least when speaking to moderates and independent thinkers like me and my readers -- to take the high road.
All the RNC's position paper achieved yesterday was to rally the same people who always like this rhetoric. It will do nothing to win the hearts and minds of the middle. We see the RNC actions for what they are.
And I LOVE the last Huff Po comment about President Bush being backstage at a concert in Colorado when Katrina hit. Presumably President Bush was traveling at taxpayer expense, when the news media was filled with doom and gloom that Katrina was arriving any moment.
Somehow, I don't think POTUS would find himself at a concert in Colorado when everyone knew that a devastating hurricane was arriving any moment.

They look so happy together! I’m so glad that the first couple regularly makes time for a date night. If they can do it, then the rest of America should be able to. Call Auntie or Granny or a good friend to babysit and head out for a night on the town. Every couple should do this at least once a month.

Strange - according to Politico, Republicans have decided to try to score political points with this trip:

Hmmm…am I missing something here? Are we really going to see the Republicans attack the President and First Lady? Do they really think this is a way to get back into power? Let’s see.
Anyway, the First Lady looks as fabulous as ever. I like when she wears light lips stick. Very 1960s.

I personally think seeing them out is very calming for me as a citizen. Also, the First Lady makes him laugh and smile and helps him stay calm and relaxed trying to fix so many things. Also, they’re a stimulus package by themselves. As Strong just said, it reminds all of us to get dressed and go out somewhere; spend some of our stimulus money if we can. In addition, I want this family to stay strong, because with so many issues, and now N. Korea acting like a hot mess, I want the President to have a stable, happy marriage and home life. Also, the President works all the time, not just when he’s giving speeches, and he recently said on C-Span he’s up to at least midnight every night and up at dawn everyday. They’re going right back after the show. If he could go privately by car without the press and entourage, I’m sure he would, by I for one am glad that he is a man of his word, and if he promises something (especially to his wife), he keeps that promise. Reminds me of their anniversary during the campaign and he flew back to take Mrs. O to dinner, even though he was slammed by the Republicans. Mrs. O has always said that the President has always been consistent, even if it costs him in the press.
The Obamas show what is really important—marriage and family. Rock on Obamas, that’s real family values and not just rhetoric.

The republicans are only upset because they're afraid their wives will see this and want the same. Funny how we never heard them complain when Bush flew to Texas 77 times with a much bigger airplane and entourage. These trips also likely included a second very large plane to carry the helicopters, limousines, and other presidential "stuff".

As a Dem, I think that their is a valid point to be made about the expense about the trip. The venom dripping for the comments doesn't help you make the case. I think President's need to have a balanced life. I thought it was OK for the Bush's to spend half a year in Crawford, TX, so I'm OK with the Obama's spending 8 hours in the NYC.

The President needs a balanced life --- good line (altho a night out with his wife hardly balances ALL his responsibilities, but it still was a good point!). Americans LOVE to see President Obama and his wife outside the walls of the White House, enjoying life! Hail to the Chief -- and his Mrs. Very small price to pay for us taxpayers.

And as usual ... MUCH ADO about NOTHING from the RIGHT ... most, if not all, sitting presidents have attended live theatre in NYC among other events like concerts (and Olympics) in other states and countries (during the best of times and the worst of times ~even when hurricanes hit) etc.
NOT JUST THE OBAMAS!
ALL of whom on the taxpayers!
This took a thirty second Google image search! Enjoy!

After this last comment, there's nothing for me to say. Except that I believe the Republicans should think twice before throwing any more water on POTUS and FLOTUS date nights. Anne
