Michelle in NYC on Monday, May 18th for an Arts Double Hitter
Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 6:53AM Jetting back from speaking today at commencement exercises at California's UC Merced, the First-Mom-in-Chief will head north to Manhattan on Monday, May 18th.

Next Monday, Michelle will be on hand to help local school kids cut the ribbon on the Metropolitan Museum of Art's newly renovated American wing.
On Monday night the First Lady with presumably be joined by her husband, who is also an Honorary Chairmen of American Ballet Theatre's eight-week session at the Metropolitan Opera House.
This CNN video expands the UC-Merced campaign to bring Michelle to today's commencement.

Remember, Herbie Hancock will be on hand at ABT, so it will be another music & arts-filled evening for the Obamas and all of America.
I understand that we must fix the American economy first and foremost, but I believe that the Obama's commitment to reinvigorating the arts in America is a top priority.
When times are tough, it's often our creative spirits that get us through. New York wasn't so dignified and sophisticated in the seventies. Yet most people will tell you that the city was at its creative and substantative best, as New York teetered on the verge of bankruptcy.

PS: Remember my earlier blurb about Michelle's Margiela white pantsuit. Hmmm. It's a bold statement piece, worn only for a very sophisticated occasion. And we know that won't be the fashion industry's June 15 CFDA awards, where she will be honored, but not in attendance.
