Susan Boyle 'Takes Out' POTUS on YouTube: Watch the Irish Twosome in Action

Anne here, not even sweating the cynics anymore, as the Susan Boyle phenomenon sweeps the world. For anti-Boyle news, read Susan Boyle backlash begins via London Times.

If you can't feel a bit good about this story, it's your problem.The rest of us aren't all wrong in responding to, embracing and celebrating Susan Boyle's 'Yes We Can' story.

I agree that the question is what will happen next? For now, Susan says 'no Botox' and no makeovers. Apparently she did just dye her hair and now says that she has been kissed. To be determined. Susan definitely understands that she is being celebrated as an 'of the people' woman and her responsibilities as an image extend now beyond her signing career.

The big news this morning is that Susan Boyle as apparently swept by POTUS, headed towards being the biggest sensation in the history of YouTube, probably bringing new (translate 'older') viewers to YouTube for the first time.

The European media is bundling the Obamas and Susan Boyle together, as part of a larger trend, a "Yes We Can" phenomenon. I'm reading the details, but for now you have the Corrigan Brothers celebrating the Irish roots of both global idols: Barack Obama and Susan Boyle.

Speaking of Susan (and perhaps also of Barack and Michelle):

Patricia Williams, a professor of law at Columbia University in New York, likened Boyle's story to the election of Barack Obama in an op-ed piece for Britain's Observer newspaper headlined: "I know those sneers. I've heard them too."

"Boyle's ability to up-end conventional preconceptions is akin to what the 'black is beautiful' movement of the 1970s tried to accomplish: a debunking of surface-based biases in favour of deeper commitments to fairness, intelligence, courage, humility, patience, re-examined aesthetics and the willingness to listen," wrote Professor Williams.

"Dismissing her – or anyone – based on careless expectations about what age or lack of employment supposedly signify is the habit of mind common to all forms of prejudice."
