It Doesn't Matter Who Made the First Move; With the Queen and Michelle, Admiration Is Mutual
Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 3:24PM
Well, we have so many different versions of the PDA 'incident' at this point. Who knows who made the first move? It doesn't matter. All's well that ends well, and clearly the Queen and Michelle got along swimmingly.
I, of course, assumed that the Obama PDA charm offensive came home to roost first, that FOTUS did what comes naturally.
When you are as genuinely warm and expressive as the Obamas, you can't help yourself.
I may be repeating myself here -- most likely -- but when I first came to New York City, from my cold, wintery Minnesota upbringing, I was astonished how all the Jewish sales ladies at Saks Fifth Avenue and the stockroom staff -- who were more likely than not African American -- could not keep their hands off me.
Their warmth was contagious. At first I was very taken aback, but then I thrived on the physical contact. Today you would think I'm a member of Team Obama.
UPDATE: Fri. April 3. Even the Daily Mail is now changing the story back to the Queen making the first move, in an updated story: The Queen, Michelle and the new touchy-feely protocol:
(Back to Thursday, April 2) It seems that FOTUS is becoming 'guilty as charged' for initiating the hug, but everyone agrees that the Queen adores her and was very responsive to her persona. Buckingham Palace has issued a statement that it's totally relaxed about the 'incident'.
