Mixed Reports Abound On Whether the Obamas Will Choose Just One DC Church for Services

Where the First Family will attend Easter Sunday church services remains a mystery this morning. The White House insists that the church so blessed does not confirm any final decision in where the Obamas will regularly attend church services.

Some insiders say that the Obamas have actually abandoned the search for a formal relationship with a single church, preferring instead to rotate their spiritual routine.

According to the Washington Post, the Obamas haven't attended been a regular Sunday service together, since last year, when they left their longtime church in Chicago, Trinity United Church of Christ, and its controversial pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr.

Those who say that the Obamas continue to look for a 'permanent' house of worship say they are considering Calvary Baptist Church in Chinatown and Asbury United Methodist Church downtown. Calvary is led by the Rev. Amy Butler and Asbury is led by the Rev. Louis Shockley; both are well-known progressives.

Politico weighs in, saying that Obama is leaning toward an African-American church. This aide noted that in Obama’s first book, he said that there is "something that was compelling to him about the African-American worship tradition and that remains the same. He has made his perspective pretty clear."

Aides insist that there's no "vetting out" process involved in the selection of a church for the Obamas. The denial frankly seems not true, given the national controvery created over the Obama's worship at Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ.
