Jamie Oliver Will Serve Understated, Welsh Lamb for Wednesday Dinner
Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 7:57AM First things first. While we wait breathlessly to see what Michelle will wear to tea with Queen Elizabeth, the London Times has looked ahead to tonight's dinner plans.
British chef Jamie Oliver will be cooking tonight at 10 Downing StreetJamie Oliver willl serve seasonal produce for tonight's dinner at 10 Downing Street, with a main course of Welsh lamb. More on the menu in a minute.
The big questions on everyone's mind (just teasing here, dear readers) is Michelle's dinner partners this evening.
It's 'ladies night' for FLOTUS. Seated on one side will be J.K. Rowling, the author; and on the other will be Kelly Holmes, the double Olympic gold medalist.
In a tiny surprise to me, the infernal bad girl doing good work these days, supermodel Naomi Campbell is attending the grand fete. (For more about Naomi stealing the show last week, at India's Lakme Fashion Week, read my J'Adore Sexy.)
On the Jamie Oliver menu: the Welsh lamb from a Snowdonia, Jersey Royal new potatoes and asparagus from Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly. The wine list will include the award-winning Nyetimber sparkling wine, produced in West Sussex.
Plans for dinner are highly sensitive, given the state of the global economic crisis. The Browns wish to avoid accusations of extravagance after last July's G8 meeting in Japan, where leaders were served a lavish eight-course meal with 18 separate dished, including caviar and the very expensive Kyoto beef.
