Michelle and Ms. O Share the O Mag Spolight
Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 8:02AM Ms. O, aka Oprah, doesn't exactly give the cover of her April issue to First Lady Michelle Obama, as I previously reported.
Oprah shares the April O magazine cover with Michelle. It is the first time in nine years that Oprah has not solely dominated her cover. Glorious as it is, Anna Wintour's Vogue and People did scoop O, at a time when magazine sales are down.
As an Obama-insider, I would expect O to have the first Michelle cover. There's a lot of rumors that all is not well in Michelle/Oprah land, and while I'm absolutely not a rumor-monger, this insinuation seems to have some strong legs.
I'll be following this conversation thread over the weekend, reporting back to you.
For now, please read up on bits and pieces of Oprah's and Gayle's interview with Michelle at Oprah.com.
I find the Michelle/Oprah relationship . . .and comparison . . . fascinating. Just as Barack dominates photo ops with his own physical presence, Michelle dominates the O cover, almost making Oprah look like a lady in waiting.
As to the "dangerously good" pies served at the White House . . . well let's just hope that Oprah lays off the pie. We sense that Michelle would not succumb to the pie. If she does, she will get her gorgeous African American backside over to the gym, to work off the huckleberry pie, while throwing in a few extra lunges.
Most of us, including Oprah, do not have the Team Obama self-discipline.
Clearly these two -- Barack and Michelle Obama -- are not perfect, but I sense they don't often fall off their life-goals wagon.
Team Obama is a towering presence in our lives. Their body language, self-assurance, self-discipline and contagious enthusiasm for living well and effectively, remind us that "yes we can". Anne
