The Obama White House: Up Close and Personal

Children and officials of the Children's Miracle NetworkYou know that change has come to the White House, when FOTUS is out of town with the First Girls, and the new White House swingset still gets a workout, thanks to Presdient Obama.

The Obamas weren't kidding, when they said that the swingset was installed for many kids, not only Sasha and Malia.

Children and officials of the Children's Miracle NetworkOn Tuesday, the swingset became a playground for a bunch of new kids on the block, members of the Marie Osmond's Children’s Miracle Network Champions, young children who have fought against serious illness or health problems from all 50 states.

We can only imagine that the squealing delight of kids playing on the White South Lawn was music to his ears, while POTUS prepared for this big news conference on Tuesday evening.

As the NYTimes writes today, the Obamas have done more to 'humanize' the White House, than any previous Presidential couple.

This is a great photo of POTUS eating his hot dog and drinking a beer at a D.C. basketball game.

Pundits weigh in pro and con on such a strategy of 'openness' at the White House.

Letitia Baldridge, White House social secretary to Jacqueline Kennedy, approves of the Obamas open, social style: “It’s a great bank of good will in which they’re making deposits every day.”

The warm and social Barack Obama is a counterpoint to Barack the Geek image and seems to reflect POTUS's actual persona as a whip-smart, community organizer.

When POTUS took the podium on Tuesday evening, all the pundits agreed that he had returned to his analytical, cool, unflappable self.

The Obamas are a cross between the Clintons and the Carters, with their own unique operating style, born of their cultures, life experiences and deep friendships.

Reaching out is a core principle of the Obama personality-type.

After all, we are looking at a couple with careers devoted to helping people. Not always waiting for ordinary folks to come to them, the Obamas have hit the road, reaching out into the community.

Their adventures are more than well-crafted publicity stunts, reflecting instead an insistence of remaining 'whole' to the values that got them to the White House in the first place.

“We were taught you have to get to know the community you’re in, and you have to be a part of that community,” Mrs. Obama said during a visit to Mary’s Center, a health clinic that serves a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood. “D.C. is our community now, and it’s our home.”

The president says he hopes to serve as a bridge in a town long divided between the haves and have-nots. “I want to see if we can bring those two Washingtons together,” Mr. Obama said in an interview on the ABC program “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”

I've noticed Conservative Republican pundits (and a few Dems, too) saying that POTUS should be 100% focused on the economy. But at a time when people are scared and feel like they're standing on quicksand, I like the idea of a president who is open and accessible.

We know he's not just "one of the guys".

We live in a Twitter culture today. People lead more transparent lives. If you've not in the fishbowl, people want to know 'why not?' What are you hiding? In an age of unregulated Wall Street and Bernie Madoff, people want to feel close to the action.

To date, the Obamas have been masters at managing their public profiles. Granted, we remain in the honeymoon period, but Americans really do adore Team Obama in their hearts. Pundits say this can be fleeting; that people turn on a dime, when it comes to celebrity status.

We'll see. My instincts tell me that the affection runs pretty deep here. I might be wrong, but I don't think so. The Obamas have something you can't buy with globs of money: people's respect. Respect is priceless and tends to sustain itself, in good times and bad. Anne

I am seriously going to start using all of that! Thank you so much, I am not even kidding! There is nothing that I hate more than coming up with content all the time to barely keep our real estate blog up. It's just so time consuming - so thanks again!
