Retraction Please: No Weeding Until the Economy Is Fixed
Friday, March 20, 2009 at 12:11PM Criticism of too many projects going on in Obamaland is being heard around America. I have no opinion presently.
I'm thinking that perhaps Michelle shouldn't have talked about POTUS weeding the new garden, at least not until the economy is back on track. Those remarks become blog-fodder so easily.
You can expect a cartoon or two of FLOTUS waltzing into the Oval Office, with gardening shoes for POTUS. Perhaps she tells the Treasury Secretary it's time for him to go. You get my drift.
Of all people, I know that little remarks can come back to haunt one. It's the downside of speaking extemporaneously.
Looking for all the 'dirt' on the new White House garden, today's Washington Post fills in many of the blanks, besides 'no beets'. No beets, no broccoli . . . what is is with guys and b-vegetables.
We learn about the garden:
• Michelle will be joined at the groundbreaking by students from Bancroft Elementary in Northwest Washington. Update: Here they are.

• The kids will help maintain the garden, as part of their ongoing participation
• The 1,100-square-foot garden will include 55 kinds of veggies, including arugula. The White House chefs helped to plan the ingredients to be grown.
• Besides berries and herbs, there will be two hives for honey, tended by a White House carpenter who is also a beekeeper. (Who knew!)
• All is organic in the garden, including the seedlings.
