Etta James: A Case Of Mistaken Identity
Friday, February 6, 2009 at 10:30AM There are moments when even the Obamas don't lead a charmed life. If the whole world was charmed at the gorgeous moment when Beyonce sang "At Last" to the First Couple, Etta James was not amused.
Forget the fact that many people got a new education on Etta James, who was not exactly a household word going in to the Inauguration. I am one person who lavishly paid tribute to her.
Her viscious attack, not only on Beyonce, but on the President -- I'm quite certain that she says that the guy with the big ears is not her president -- leaves most people speechless.
I hate it when these things happen, because the words can never be undone. But we must try.
Beyonce singing "At Last" to the Obamas is one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen in my life. And I play it again for all of us.
As for you, Etta James. You sound like a very bitter woman who needs to find a positive spirit in your life.
Perhaps you have some grievance over this issue.I agree that you have been singing the song for decades. Reports say that you were happy having Beyonce sing your story in the movies. And how many people sing other people's songs? It happens every day.
If Obama is not your president, you wouldn't have come to sing the song on Jan. 20. This was not your Inauguration, from the sounds of your statements. To express your upset with such disrespect to what has happened in America is a spiteful, self-centered tirade that impacts us all.
You owe, at least the Obamas, an apology, Etta James.
And I regret promoting your career the day after, in an effort to pay tribute to someone I thought is a different woman from the one now speaking into the microphone.
Etta James is a hater. According to urbandictionary.com, a hater is:
