Barack Obama: The Cowboy and The Lover Boy
Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 5:45AM Mrs. O has done a great job of tracking down more info about Michelle Obama's gift to Laura Bush.
Hours after placing the enticing white box with red ribbon in Mrs. Bush's welcoming hands, we knew that the First Lady's gift was a writing journal. Watching the presentation, I marvelled at Michelle's gesture, as just another example of her being an undeniable class act.
The gift was well-chosen for Laura Bush, with her book deal confirmed. Unfortunately George Bush is not so lucky. Publishers appear nervous to negotiate much of an advance for 43, especially in this economy.
Reading that the Laura-gift journal came from Louis L'Amour, I had vision of Paris pens and parchment paper, perhaps flown over for the Inauguration. So I smiled, seeing a cowboy on the front page of the L'Amour website. The plot thickens when one wanders inside the trading post. We are in Bush country.
You see, unlike the 44th President, Louis L'Amour might not be a Lover Boy.
It seems that L'Amour notches one global adventure after another, in his world playbook Louis L'Amour Adventures. The books present a series of global L'Amour intrigues filled with mystery and suspense.
I see no mention of a dame in the stories, but if one exists, you can believe that she's larger than life . . . 5'11" at least . . . with black hair. No mere mortal woman can keep up with L'Amour.
Initially I assumed that our First Lady Michelle's choice of the Western-inspired Louis L'Amour journal was inspired by the reality of Laura Bush and hubby being hours away from boarding an airplane out of town, taking them back to their beloved Texas. But now it occurs to me that the President 44 himself, may have inspired her choice.
After all, sexy role-playing can a powerful stimulant in keeping love alive.
via Jason Grandt's photostreamCould it be that Michelle framed the now-famous photo of Barack in his cowboy hat? Perhaps it now resides in the Presidential bedroom? Or the private dressing closet that Michelle surely has in the White House. Did you know there are six floors in the W.H., and the First Couple had a grand tour this weekend?
Sorry, the Prez still looks like a Harvard guy, but even the bastions of the Ivy League like to get a little wild and crazy on occasion.
In summation, the First Lady's Laura Bush journal gift was a perfect choice, and let's hope that the real story behind its selection as First Gift rivals anything written in the adventures of Louis L'Amour, global spy catcher. A
