The REAL DEAL: Etta James - At Last
Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 8:27AM At Last by Etta James
Anne here. I feel like I'm in some kind of warp madness that I can't explain.
In my wildest dreams, I never thought I'd be blogging about Etta James on a website devoted to the style and cultural influence of America's First Family, who just happen to be African Americans. Woah!
One never knows where life will take you. Today, let it take you to the website of Etta James, the very much alive torch singer who is the voice of "At Last", our new national love song.
It was Beyoncé's voice that inspired the Obama's First Dance, in their new role as America's First Lovebirds last night.
Sorry, sorry . . . America's First Lady and Mister President!
But Etta James is the real story . . . the original.
I will surely get in trouble here on Michelle Style, with my tendency to say the first words out of my mouth. But clients know, the honest truth means business, and goodness knows, we all need to do our part in stimulating the American economy.
Self-censorship and political correctness never helped me articulate a meaning dialogue with anybody.
Bringing my private commentary on trends about American women and sexuality out of the boardroom and into the general public was not on my personal radar. And yet, I am so inspired by the Obamas and the opportunity to participate in a new direction in America, that I say "let it rip."
Speaking of words that get us in trouble, I intend to sit and copy down Beyoncé's words in the above video, to describe Etta James, the original "bad girl". And then I'm marching these words over to Sense & Sensuality, as the mantra to describe women featured there.
Next up in Sense & Sensuality, Michelle Obama.
If I'm going to flame out here on the Internet, I've decided to self-immolate on my own terms. These content subjects on Anne of Carversville and Michelle Style are long-lived and dear to my heart.
As Quincy Jones said last night, Europeans know more about -- and ENJOY in their private lives -- the glories of America's African American Culture . . . Black Culture. Admittedly, I must get my terminology straight, so as not to be unintentionally disrespectful.
Trust me, the Obamas will change this American reality of oru cultural ignorance. Hallelujah!
Love, Anne
Thankfully, Etta James is alive and singing. We are not so lucky with Eartha Kitt, whose womanly voice still reigns, over on Anne of Carversville: J'Adore: Eartha Kitt
