AMERICA'S First Lady, Michelle Obama, might know nothing of the furore surrounding rugby league, but if she accepts an invitation to the International Working Group on Women and Sport conference next May in Sydney, she might quickly become conversant.
The conference will work for specific outcomes on issues, such as addressing violence against women in sport, and investigate having specific quotas of women in leadership roles within sporting organisations.
The conference features a host of hard-hitting delegates, including the United Nations secretary-general Ban Ki-moon and patron in chief, the Governor-General Quentin Bryce, with financial support from the Australian and NSW governments. Mrs Obama is to be invited as a special guest speaker. more
