WASHINGTON - First Lady Michelle Obama beamed her star power at the Department of Education on Monday in taking up her self-assigned role as cheerleader-in-chief for the nation's civil servants.

"I'm a product of your work," Obama told more than 300 workers at the department. "I wouldn't be here if it weren't for the public schools that nurtured me and helped me along," said Obama, who attended public schools in Chicago. more
