Barack Obama’s round table will have its share of glamour and celebrity but promises to welcome a broader range of Americans. In the word’s of a senior adviser to the US President-Elect, the White House will be “the people’s house again”.
And with the youngest children – and youngest First Lady – since Kennedy took office in 1961, it is to become a more informal, carefree place, according to friends.
Concerned about the remoteness of power, Mr Obama, 47, and his wife Michelle, 44, have made it clear they want to both be part of life in Washington and to retain as much normality as possible. more
